It has been a long while, in fact I am not sure that I remember such a season, when all my clients have been unlucky and had poor fishing. Of course there are always the unlucky weeks when there is too much or too little water and then of course there are those that benefit from the extra water once …
Travelling through Iceland – 2012 – Final comment Akureyri
I leave you with a few more shots of Akureyri and the beautiful day that it was as I left. Also, with some typical Icelandic scenes on my final journey which took me back to Egilsstadir via Lake Myvatn, along the Jokla river, up over a mountain to Vopnafjordur the other side. I drove close to 1000 miles in three …
Travelling through Iceland – 2012 – Neskaupstadur – Akureyri
The journey out of Neskaupstadur was looking grim with very low cloud. My view was gone by morning. But as I left things improved a bit and I was able to see some wonderful views down the fjord and overlooking Eskifjordur. My destination was Egilsstadir and then on to Seydisfjordur which I had heard was another wonderful drive and outpost …
Travelling Through Iceland – 2012 – Vik to Egilsstadir (Neskaupstadur)
The internet in the room was so slow, it was not worth using but I discovered it was fine at the dining room so I did my email and posted by blog and left later than I hoped. Leaving Vik, one enters the volcanic lava fields which go for miles, only punctuated by glacial rivers that make their way to …
Travelling through Iceland – 2012 – The Golden Circle, South and East Coast
Day Two Reykjavik – Vik – Golden Circle Many clients have stayed two nights in Reykjavik and been to see the puffins and whales for a day which works well. Others have stayed another day and done the Golden Circle (the Geyser, Gullfoss, Glacier and Sellfoss) on a second day. This is a long day but worthwhile. It also gives …
Travelling through Iceland – 2012 – Arrival Day
I am back in Iceland for one of my favourite times of year. My 19th year on the Sela with friends. I often try and visit other rivers before arriving at Sela or try and do a little extra fishing. But this year, instead of ‘gunning’ it to a river, I planned to research more what many of my clients …
Iceland, record Sela salmon…

The salmon was caught on a 7 weight LOOP rod 9,6 foot and took a hitched fly on hook size 14 with a 12 pound nylon. Salmon catches have been good this year …
My visit to Alta 2012
In some ways arriving at Alta is the absolute best bit. It is when all the anticipation is at its greatest and it is a chance to simply enjoy the town of Alta, the place, the atmosphere, the characters that I fish with as well as those I have grown to know over 22 years. That in itself is crazy. …
Fieldsports Magazine Summer Edition Front Cover
I am pleased and proud to say that I took the grouse photo for the front cover of this quarter’s Summer Edition of Fieldsports Magazine as well as the pigeon shot on page 144!
Fishing the Ryabaga Home Pool under the midnight sun in June
This is about as classic as it gets for a spring Home Pool evening. The glow of the midnight sun, wonderful water, good aggressive fish fighting hard. The first fish is a 10lbs summer run, the second that rose first time and eventually took the skater but did not hook-up was also a summer run of the same size or …
